| Thallus leprose or dispersed-verrucose, whitish grey to greenish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile to slightly constricted at the base, 0.5–1.2 mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown, whitish grey- to bluish grey-pruinose; margin whitish grey, paler than the thallus, thin to thick, entire, ±verruculose. Cortex hyaline, indistinct, inspersed with small crystals, c. 10 µm thick laterally and 10–25 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH, c. 15 µm thick. Epihymenium dark red-brown, 10–15 µm thick, with small crystals; crystals and pigmentation soluble in KOH (chlarotera-type). Hypothecium and subhymenium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 12.5–17.5 × 6.5–8.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ yellow; containing chloroatranorin (major), zeorin (major), atranorin (minor) and traces of unidentified terpenes. |  |
